Climate change and tourism: FUO VC launches greening and beautification club

The Vice Chancellor, Fountain University, Osogbo Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim has established a greening and beautification club with the aim of engaging the university community in the physical aesthetic development of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor’s initiative is in tandem with the Climate Change action of the United Nations (UN). In addition, the goal of establishing the club is to promote environmental awareness and sustainability to design and implement landscaping and beautification project to support and advocate for environmentally friendly campus.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that adopting the greening initiative is part of the Fountain University’s dedication to improving the university campus which can have a significant impact on enrollment, improve students’ happiness and also their academic performance.
She stated that the club will actively involve the staff members, students and other stakeholders of the university in planning and implementation of greening and beautification projects and fostering a sense of ownership and personal investment in the University.
She added that the club will work closely with the University administration to develop and promote plans that facilitate a greener and more attractive campus, such as sustainable procurement practices and recycling programs, and that the club will regularly check their projects, activities and also identify their areas of success. The club would also provide a report on the environment and the aesthetic state of the campus.
The Vice Chancellor also mentioned that the university will improve through physical appearance by planting of trees, flowers and other greenery as well as beautification initiatives such as installing benches, artwork and well maintained pathways.
Lastly she also implies in calling the interest of the students, staffs and stakeholders to join the club and help to make a positive impact in our environment.
