Garri!!! which some people call ‘cassava flakes’ is one of the cheapest food consumed in West Africa, especially amongst students. It is also known to be the most accessible food to students.

Garri, to the average Nigerian student is a great Savior. It is a well known food made from cassava tubers and it finds itself at the center of student conversation and gatherings at Fountain University.

After a long day filled with lectures, study sessions and campus activities, students think of what could take as quickly as possible to satisfy their hunger when they get to their hostels. Regardless of background or discipline, they converge around the Garri bowl, forging connections and sharing moments that extend beyond academic endeavours.

It could be soaked with cold chilled water, sugar, milk, and groundnut. It could also be prepared at any time and it is really affordable. Garri comes in yellow and white colours. The white colour is recommended but the yellow is said to be preferred by students due to its vitamin A content which is essential for vision enhancement.

It is a good source of some essential nutrients like dietary fibre, vitamin C, and potassium which are important for the health.

At Fountain University, Garri becomes a unifying force. It enables students to manage their budgets judiciously, allowing them to spend their money intelligently without compromising on a wholesome and nourishing diet. Students may buy Garri in bulk, sometimes a huge bag of Garri would go a long way.

Garri has a very long shelf life and does not require refrigeration. It lasts for a long period of time without losing it’s quality. Garri allows students to make economical choice in their dietary decisions, contributing to a budget-friendly and sustainable approach to nourishment.
